Pleasantville Schools Appoints First Director of Curriculum, Instruction & Assessment

This evening, the Pleasantville Board of Education appointed Dr. Joshua Deitch as the District’s first Director of Curriculum, Instruction and Assessment at a special meeting. This newly created position was approved as part of the 2025–26 budget and reflects the District’s ongoing commitment to supporting teachers, strengthening curriculum, and ensuring that all students thrive. Dr. Deitch’s official start date will be October 6, 2025.

Dr. Deitch comes to Pleasantville after nearly 20 years in private education, most recently serving as the Head of Middle School and Director of Curriculum and Instruction at the King School in Stamford, CT, where he has led with a deep belief in building strong, student-centered communities. He earned his Doctoral degree from Northeastern University, Master of Arts in Teaching from Manhattanville College, and Bachelor of Arts from Washington University in St. Louis, MO.

He shared that what drew him to Pleasantville was the chance to “have a broad impact in a community that already values educational excellence and cares deeply about its students.” Coming into public education, Dr. Deitch noted that his experience in smaller school settings has prepared him to listen closely and respond to the needs of students, teachers, and families: “My goal is to make people feel heard and understood, while ensuring our decisions are clear and designed to benefit the entire learning community.”

As Pleasantville’s first Director of Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment, Dr. Deitch will focus on elevating and aligning the strong instructional practices already in place, helping to create a common language and consistency across schools. He is committed to supporting innovation, particularly through project-based and experiential learning opportunities that give students a greater understanding of the world around them. A key part of his role will be guiding the district’s vision for STEAM, ensuring that new facilities and programs are paired with robust teacher training, cross-disciplinary collaboration, and innovative student opportunities. This includes leading collaboration with administrators, faculty, and the Community Facilities Committee to prepare an informed recommendation for the next Capital Project and beyond.

Interim Superintendent Dr. Eric Lutinski expressed his enthusiasm for this new appointment: “We are excited to welcome Dr. Deitch to Pleasantville. His thoughtful approach and student-centered philosophy will help us build on our many strengths as a district while also opening new opportunities for innovation. This new role reflects our ongoing commitment to providing the very best educational experiences for all of our students.”

Dr. Deitch lives in Westchester with his wife, a school counselor, and their three children, twin daughters in seventh grade and a son in fourth grade. A lifelong Yankees fan, he enjoys baseball, reading, and spending time with his family.

Please join us in welcoming Dr. Deitch to Pleasantville, as we look forward to this exciting new chapter!
