Dear Pleasantville Families,

We hope you’re enjoying summer so far! Here’s a quick snapshot of what was covered at this week’s Special Board of Education Meeting.

Special Meeting Recap – July 29, 2025

Topic: First Reading of Policy #7316: Use of Internet-Enabled Devices During the School Day 👉 Click here to review the draft policy

As many families are aware, New York State recently passed the Distraction-Free Schools Law, which requires that internet-enabled cell phones and other unauthorized devices be stored out of sight for the duration of the school day.

In response, our district has drafted Policy #7316 using language closely aligned with the new state law.

Interim Superintendent Dr. Lutinski shared that he has begun meeting with students, parents, and leadership from various groups across the district to ensure all voices are heard and questions are answered. These conversations will continue, and we encourage anyone with questions or feedback to email Dr. Lutinski (LutinskiE@pleasantvilleschools.org). You are also welcome to speak during public comment at our next Board meeting.

Second Reading & Anticipated Policy Adoption

At the upcoming meeting, the Board will hold a second reading of the policy and expects to vote on its adoption to remain in compliance with NYS law.

Dr. Lutinski emphasized that this will be a “learning year.” Through lived experience and community input, we expect the policy to evolve to best meet the needs of our students and staff while maintaining legal compliance.
