Dear Pleasantville families,

I’m honored and excited to join the Pleasantville Union Free School District as Interim Superintendent of Schools. After spending the past 30 years in the Rye Neck School District—most recently as Superintendent—I’ve long admired Pleasantville for its strong reputation, academic excellence, and the deep pride that’s clearly felt throughout the schools and community. It’s a true privilege to now be part of this incredible district.

Over the past few weeks, I’ve had the chance to meet with building and department leaders, as well as leaders of the PTA, who are deeply embedded in the life of the schools and the community. I’m grateful for their perspective—and I know they’ll be a valuable source of insight and feedback as we move forward. I’ve already seen firsthand the passion and professionalism that make this place so special.

I know we have important work ahead this year—but before anything else, I want to start by listening. I believe the best way to lead is by learning from those who know the district best, and I’m eager to hear from staff, families, and community members as we chart our path together.

I’m looking forward to building strong relationships across the district—with students, staff, families, and community members—as we work toward a shared goal: helping every student learn, grow, and thrive. Whether in the classroom, on the stage, or out on the field, Pleasantville clearly sets a high bar—and I’m excited to support that continued excellence.

As a lifelong educator, I’ve always believed communication is key. Just like great teaching, it should be thoughtful, purposeful, and meet people where they are. I’ll do my best to keep everyone informed and engaged through clear, respectful, and responsive communication.

I hope to meet many of you soon—my first opportunity will be at Lemonade at the Library, a relaxed meet-and-greet on Tuesday, August 5 from 6:00–7:00 PM outside the Pleasantville High School Library. Please stop by and say hello!

A little about me: I live in Connecticut with my wife, and we have two grown children. I’m passionate about education, and I also enjoy music, sports, and a good book. I’m bringing my experience, energy, and heart to this role—and I’m committed to supporting the students, staff, and families of Pleasantville every step of the way.

Thank you for the warm welcome so far. I’m truly looking forward to the year ahead.

Best regards,

Dr. Eric Lutinski
